Meanings according to Rider-Waite:
ASTROLOGICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Jupiter / Venus as a symbol of great gain.
NINE OF DISKS The Nine of Disks has long been considered the card of financial success, of winnings, of large and often unexpected profit. Thus, it signifies a turn for the better, good fortune, and situations that in popular speech are described as "luck has fallen upon him." Alongside this undoubtedly favourable meaning of outward good fortune, it also promises a tangible change in personality (for the better).

NINE OF PENTACLES Reinforcement The second decan of VIRGO, from September 2 to 12. Astrological equivalents: Sagittarius, the Moon, Neptune, the Ninth House. The second decan of Virgo expresses the synthesis of theory and practice, of productive labour and respect for the individual, when a person's activity brings benefit and pleasure both to those around him and to himself, and the perfection of action leads to a high level of culture and knowledge in general. To this decan belongs an understanding of the hierarchical structure of the world and the subordination of life processes, the ability to obey and to lead, neither to obstruct the natural course of things nor to fail to control it. This decan expresses the idea that the highest aristocracy of a person, his human dignity, lies in the capacity to act for the good of others while at the same time being aware that he does so for his own sake as well. Venus is the patron of this decan, and the mastery of life attained here often leads to an absolutising of the earthly order. The TAROT card depicts an elegantly dressed woman in a well-tended garden, where clusters of grapes hang from the bushes. On the woman's shoulder sits a falcon, the symbol of aristocracy. She can permit herself to indulge in refined amusements — falconry — because all of her tasks for the moment have been accomplished, and ideal order reigns within the sphere of her functioning. The pitfall. To put on rose-coloured spectacles and refuse to see the truth. The NINE OF PENTACLES to a very great extent "engages" the sign of Sagittarius and such planets as Jupiter and Mercury. The NINE OF PENTACLES is regarded as a good card. Through it the correction of one's life philosophy may take place, especially under the influence of external social factors. The NINE OF PENTACLES is the ability to live with a benefit already extracted (profit, income, gain). The card is connected with all questions of the extraction of profit. And this is by no means limited to money or property. The question is posed thus: what exactly can I consider a benefit to myself? (The relation between the inner world and the benefit that may be drawn precisely from the riches of the inner world.) Hence — the inclination to see what is favourable with particular clarity and to overlook what is unfavourable. One who goes through life with such a view of things appears somewhat naïve, yet despite this (or perhaps because of it) passes unharmed through every obstacle. UPRIGHT POSITION In the upright position the NINE OF PENTACLES symbolises foresight, attainment, reliability, security, prudence, soundness, naturalness, conformity to nature. Profit, a carefree life, a positive view of things. The ability to see the positive sides of a situation and of one's partners, a benevolent attitude toward people. The NINE OF PENTACLES also indicates fertility and the possibility of conception (Jupiter). The latter should be verified against the horoscope. In the metaphysical sense the NINE OF PENTACLES signifies a process gathering growth where there is great potential.
REVERSED POSITION In the reversed position the NINE OF PENTACLES indicates a threat to security, danger, loss of faith, the possible loss of significant friendships or of something you hold dear; in a woman's reading it may signify miscarriage or abortion. The latter should be quite strongly supported both in the spread and in the horoscope, as should infertility (both physical and creative). The reversed NINE OF PENTACLES may also indicate the following: You have invested money and energy in something and await the result, but it does not come — a wearisome waiting. At the same time, through the NINE OF PENTACLES the lower Sagittarius may play itself out. This is deception, lies, inconstancy in relationships, delusions — especially delusions connected with teaching (the situation of the black teacher, who leads you toward the light but brings you to the abyss). Fraud, empty promises, vain expectations, plans gone awry. The NINE OF PENTACLES is well symbolised by the paradoxical maxim: "Comprehend sin and give yourself over to it." Some see in the situation set forth by this card the overcoming of sin; others see in it an attempt thereby to justify sin.
