Meanings according to Rider-Waite:

ASTROLOGICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Jupiter in Taurus as a symbol of constancy, growth, and the multiplication of wealth.

KNIGHT OF PENTACLES The Knight of Pentacles personifies a state of spirit characterized by diligence, patience, and perseverance, through which things both necessary and useful are created. He symbolizes something solid, durable, and lasting — the soil or foundation upon which we can build our future. This is a true expression of the element of earth, of that substantiality and materiality which lends us self-assurance, helps us regard matters from a practical point of view, and allows us to achieve tangible results. It also, however, marks the quite definite boundary of our capacity for sensory perception. Where we step beyond this boundary, the positive qualities of the Knight of Pentacles become distorted, or sometimes even turn into their opposite, manifesting as obstinacy, inertia, thick-skinned sloth, and sensual excess.

From the book: Hajo Banzhaf. THE TAROT HANDBOOK. Translated from German by E. Kolesov. Publisher: Center for Astrological Research, 1999.

KNIGHT OF PENTACLES A mature person, conscious of responsibility for everything he does. This person enters into contact easily. In his work he is methodical, to the point of pedantry. The KNIGHT OF PENTACLES is patient, persistent, and capable of carrying any undertaking through to completion. He is an organized person who tolerates no slovenliness within himself. Being gifted from birth, he does not bury his talents in the ground, but rather develops them by every means, since he is highly demanding of himself. Pitfall: excessive trustfulness and immobility.

UPRIGHT POSITION Astrological equivalents: Capricorn, Virgo, the Sixth and Tenth Houses. At times the KNIGHT OF PENTACLES symbolizes a person inclined to fall into dependence upon, or subordination to, others. The KNIGHT OF PENTACLES wins you over with gifts, with nourishment (in the broad sense of the word), and with practical assistance. He attains his goal far more swiftly than his more impetuous colleagues. He is, perhaps, not an especially mobile person, but a constant one, moving steadily toward improvement and progress.

REVERSED POSITION Astrological equivalents: afflicted Cancer, Virgo, and Capricorn, as well as all planets connected with these signs. Negative Sixth, Fourth, and Tenth Houses. A person in a state of stagnation. Or else a carefree person, living for the day. The reversed KNIGHT OF PENTACLES may also embody such a quality as inertia. The person is hard to "rouse"; he is indecisive. At times the reversed KNIGHT OF PENTACLES appears in the role of a simple, narrow-minded philistine. Sometimes he is a fool, or a person of little ability, or else a dogmatist who refuses to accept anything that does not fit into his schemes. Or else simply an ordinary idler.

If the card signifies an action: A. Upright card The process acquires its characteristic features. It is no longer the parent process; it is wholly distinct and possesses its own development.

B. Reversed card The separation from the generating process is not yet complete. At the present moment, both follow along one and the same path, common to them both.
