Ace of Wands

Туз Жезлов

Meanings according to Rider-Waite:

ASTROLOGICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Sun/Mars as a symbol of courage, determination, willingness to take risks, and the unfolding of personality.

ACE OF WANDS Like the other Aces, the Ace of Wands represents the possibilities that have opened before us — or that we have yet to discover. The Ace of the suit of Wands signifies enterprise, boldness, and a readiness to take risks, as well as inspiration, enthusiasm, and the unfolding of personality, and that in its most essential components. Considering that Wands correspond to the element of fire, these components can confidently be said to include the strengthening of will, convictions, and moral principles, as well as other processes of inner maturation and growth. Thus, on the whole, the Ace of Wands symbolizes life-affirmation, optimism, and the joy of life. Although, in some cases, it may indicate a lack of patience.

ACE OF SCEPTRES Astrological equivalents: the signs of Sagittarius and Aquarius, the planets Jupiter and Uranus. The ACE OF SCEPTRES symbolizes something fundamentally new — a new idea, a new way of looking at things, a kind of primary creative act, a creative thought, an invention, an enterprise. Metaphysically, this corresponds to the stage of an idea's birth, its embryo. Astrologically, the card is difficult to correlate precisely with any single sign or planet. It seems that all the active planets are at work here, among which Uranus is the most engaged. This decan is characterized by a striving toward the distant and a complete indifference to anything that lies outside the sphere of its interests, a stubborn pursuit of its own course, regardless of its own needs or those of others. The pitfall is obstinacy and pressure exerted upon others.

Upright position
In the upright position, the card symbolizes creativity, creation, beginnings, invention, the dawn of understanding, an impulse, good fortune, a happy coincidence of circumstances, income, inheritance (the suit of SCEPTRES as a whole is rather a Jupiterian suit), the birth of a child, the first step toward the attainment of significant life experience, adventure.

Reversed position
In the reversed position, the card signifies a lack of new ideas, narrow-mindedness, an unwillingness to accept anything new, a premature start, delusions, an inadequate perception of reality, the loss of meaning (purpose), decline, the empty squandering of life, aging, senility (the last of which should be communicated to the client with caution). As a card representing its suit in a more concentrated form, the ACE OF SCEPTRES is related to the concept of social prestige, and therefore key words such as elevation and humiliation may also be associated with this card. The beginning that the card symbolizes may lead a person either to universal recognition and glory, or to disgrace and universal contempt.
